Hello family and friends!
I have gotten some requests to start a blog so that I can
update everybody all at once so here it goes. I am beginning my fifth week here
at Miami University and I am delighted to say that I am in love with the school
and the people here. The first week was a little difficult for me because of
the transition from high school home life to college dorm life. I am a very
routine-oriented person so once I got in the swing of things, I immediately
adapted and was able to proudly call this place my new home. Classes are so
much fun here because I am genuinely interested in what I’m learning about. I’m
currently taking French, English, Anthropology, Aeronatics/Physics, and
Theatre. I wasn’t looking forward to Anthropology because I thought it would be
just another boring history class but I was pleasantly surprised by how
interesting it is. The course load is extremely manageable and I think I have a
good idea on how to balance work and social life. I’m grateful that I had good
study habits in high school because I’m able to stay on top of my work here.
Socially, Miami is extremely fun. I am playing intramural soccer and flag
football, participating in a student-run theatre program, and am a member of an
organization called “Lespwa 4 Haiti” which serves to help child slaves in Haiti
by raising money and creating tutoring books. In January I will rush and join
Greek life, which I’m really looking forward to. My roommate and I love going
to one of the fraternity houses where we have made some really great friends.
It’s been five weeks and I already feel like I have some amazing girl friends
and some older brothers that I can talk to about anything. Uptown Oxford is
beautiful and is always booming with people so there’s never really a moment
where you have nothing to do. The food is great, my diet mostly consists of
microwaveable steamed vegetables, popcorn, Lean Cuisine meals, and chicken from
the dining halls. I definitely miss having a kitchen and can’t wait until I
get to enjoy my mom’s home cooked meals over break. I definitely miss my mom
and brother a lot because I’m so used to being with them but I haven’t been
homesick so far. I have had my fair share of "freshman problems", such as walking into the wrong lecture halls, opening doors that set off alarms, and getting completely lost while walking to class...oops. It's also a little weird getting used to being smack dab in the middle of cornfields but the beautiful campus makes up for it. I will continue to keep all of you updated and I hope you are
